Welcome to Historia
105 issues (In process)

Historia, the journal of the Historical Association of South Africa, has been continually published since 1956. Issues appear bi-annually, in May and in November, and are distributed to the approximately 250 members of the Association, as well as the libraries of academic institutions throughout the world.

Historia prides itself on its capacity to disseminate quality research that encompasses, but also stretches beyond, the boundaries of the historical profession, at an international level as well as in an affordable form on the African continent. Historia is a peer-reviewed journal which publishes articles on aspects of the history of the southern African region, as well as significant historiographical issues.

It encourages critical engagement of historians with one another, but also between historians and scholars from other disciplines that are interested in grappling with the past, or the meaning of change in their areas of expertise.

In this capacity the journal has provided and continues to provide a forum for, inter alia, geographers, literary theorists, political scientists, archaeologists, anthropologists, philosophers, sociologists, educationalists, economists, engineers, medical practitioners and "natural scientists" to engage with the South African historical fraternity.

Vice versa, it serves as a platform for historians to relate their particular interests in the past to current developments in those fields. Without neglecting the core discipline, the journal has been prolific in producing articles related to gender, the environment and other new directions in historical studies.
