The South African Journal of Wildlife Research is published by the Southern African Wildlife Association (SAWMA).

The first journal was established in 1970. Before 2001 four issues per annual volume were published. Since 2001, only two issues per annual volume are published. Original full-length papers, short communications, book reviews as well as reviews on research and management in the field of renewable natural resources are published in this Journal. All contributions are refereed.
